Reynold Adinegara

Reynold Adinegara starts life as a ceramicist circa 2019 with a career value that is contrasting with the previous one by fully embracing the inner voice in the process of creation.

The works of Adinegara ceramics are distinguished by the minimalistic, earthy, and monochromatic visual sense with deep thoughts on human touch and interaction philosophies. Expanding thoughts with the magnificent material the clay is, Reynold seeks to translate a crowded mind, trapped emotion & memories through the creation process of artworks with the ceramic medium. Within a singled out thoughts within the work, Reynold would hope the art can open a personal experience interpretation of the viewer and invoke meditative thoughts.

Tians
Tians the night potter. The brand name came from the anagram of its creator’s first name, Santi. It was born during the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 as a form of meditation to defeat restlessness and insomnia. She transformed her anxiety and restless energy into forming delicate pieces made from clay. In other words, each piece is an intimate journal of energy transformation and emotion. Therefore, each piece is bespoke and inimitable.

Santi Alaysius is an interior architect by day which she’s been practicing since 2004. She began her pottery journey in early 2018 under the mentorship of Ayu Larasati and later on with Reynold Adinegara. She creates pottery on the side as a form of self-expression, to get in touch with her inner creative energy and relaxation.

Beholder

2019 - Indonesia

Wheel thrown stoneware & terracotta, resin, wooden board & solid wood frame

165 x 85 x 15 cm

A conversation can invoke several thoughts, several conversations will invoke a significant thought. In a phase of early ceramic life, Reynold immersed himself in a sense of liberation from leaving the previous endeavor which attract friends into a conversation of life and liberation, these conversations then translated into a perspective that people are living to fill a space in their heart, the heart that was tempered with their very personal upbringing and experience. The artwork "Beholder" then allows you to see the feeling of seeing the said perspective in a form of ceramics as human hearts.

Longing | Shattered - Obscured - Shifted

2022 - Indonesia

Wheel thrown stoneware & terracotta, resin, wooden board & solid wood frame

135 x 65 x 6 cm

The works and their creation process are a reflection of intent, the intent of activity coming from a deeper perspective is a longing. Not a dream that would spark a spirit of the hustle and thrive, but Longing, something that is sweet and bitter due to the fact that the thing we long for feels far away but within our sight.

The clay was intentionally built into a slab by dragging an extended hand, I long for the work to be something so flawless knowing that it is not possible, for most of the time there is not enough room for us to mature if we hold on to our longing. So we have to let go and break it down, sometimes we lose sight of what it is anymore, and only then we are allowed to be mature and in my work case, vitrified. Coming so far we can mend ourselves one by one remembering the things we long for, even though we were shattered, shifted and wrapped, and sometimes obscured over the simplicity of time. By the time we healed, we can look at we are no longer who we were and this way of maturing is a face of life.

Longing Shattered (Natural)  - IDR 28.000.000

Longing Obscured (Black) - IDR 28.000.000

Longing Shifted (White) - IDR 28.000.000

 Impetus

2022 - Indonesia

Stoneware, Hand-built & Wheel-thrown.

30 x 33 x 60 cm

Moments in life when I have such eagerness in my heart for a wish but instead of a wish coming true, life happened in a way that broke my heart. Over time I would look again at my broken heart and see the hole is now a way in and out for life to happen and bloom in a way I probably asked for in silence, and the mind was not big enough to allow or even to understand the scale of my wish. Hence the broken heart to open it.

Tians - Seed | Sprout | Growth | Bloom | Wither

Most often Tians work inspirations came from the nature, specifically Epiphyllum Oxypetalum, also known as the queen of the night flower. It rarely blooms and only at night, and its flowers wilt before dawn. The flower is also a metaphor for how good things in life don’t last, but with good fortune will always return to bring joy and beauty to all.

Shrine to the Ace

2021 - Indonesia

Stoneware, gold lustre

20 x 18,4 x 30 cm

‘Death’ is often perceived as the end for the living and all things that are considered to have a substantial physical form. Some say the concept itself is a gateway in proceeding to the next stage of life, while others see it as new humble beginnings through the process of reincarnation, or even beyond. This artwork interprets the concept of death and all its relation to life and form, manifested in the form of a vessel (pottery). As ‘vessels’ themselves, —acting as the substantial physical form of practically everything— is a core element in which the process of life and death itself ensues.

Standing close to the sun, not far from the ground

2022 - Indonesia

Stoneware, fire brick and kiln slab

31 x 31 x 87 cm

Humans are said to be beings made “perfect” and “above” all other beings in terms of their status
and rights. With that said, behind those said privileges given by the almighty Creator, humans
also possess “self-destructive behaviors” which can also be considered a “privilege” itself. Those
behaviors can cause destruction, transformation, or deformation to humans themselves or to those
surrounding them—without them realizing or not—which can lead to a new form of satisfaction
and accomplishment for themselves.
The artist will assume the role of “The Creator” attempting to make a creation mirroring how
humans utilize their status, rights, and privileges hand in hand to reach a new state of
“perfection”—which they would eventually achieve at the end whether they want it or not—
using clay as a tactile material and related utilities relevant to its creation process, then “position”
the creation accordingly based on the humans’ vision and what The Creator desires.
